Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, or good night for anyone out there reading this.
Allow me to introduce myself, as the creator of this newborn blog...my name is Putri Ratnawisesa, though i would rather be called by a name that most of my mates know me for, which is Sesa (taken from my last name). I am currently enrolled as a undergraduate student at University of Indonesia, and am pursuing my degree in Industrial Engineering. I have been a student here since 2008, which makes this year becoming my third year here.
The capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta, is where i was first brought into this world. I was born at Bunda Hospital on the night of October 28, 1991. A few years after, my family and i moved to Los Angeles, California which caused me to spend most of my childhood years abroad.
While Dad was pursuing his PhD in epidemiology at UCLA, Mom decided to enroll me at Headstart Preschool for preschool and Clover Avenue Elementary School for me to spend my kindergarden and elementry years as a kick-off to my education experince.
My years here were very memorable, from the teachers who taught me, the long-lasting friends i made, to the extracurricular activites, including cheerleading and balinese dancing. From my elementry years is where i discovered one of my longtime hobby, which is dancing.
After Dad graduated, we moved back to Jakarta and have been living here ever since. I was in 5th grade then and continued my education at SD Negeri Percontohan Menteng 01 Jakarta, known as President Barrack Obama's former school. Adaptability was hard, considering English was the only language i was fluent at, though with hard work i managed to graduate with the highest score exams in my class.
SMP Negeri 115 Jakarta, precisely located at Tebet, was my next destination. Through my junior high years, i participated in an extracurricular activity called Paskibra (Pasukan pengibar bendera) for 3 years. This activity taught me elements that was rarely taught in class, such as discipline, leadership, and devotion to my country.
High school was short at my next school, SMA Negeri 28 Jakarta. After 3 months being enrolled in this school, i participated in a selection test for a government program called "Kelas Super". This was a program held by Professor Yohannes Surya, a well-known figure that has been able to take Indonesia to compete internationally in the Physics Olympiad, with the cooperation of the Indonesian government. What differentiates this program with a regular (public or private) high school is that the curriculum focuses on science rather than mixing it with social studies. The teaching system is also different, where "Kelas Super" prioritizes on two-way interaction between teacher and students. High school students are treated as independent and initiative individuals. Besides that, the curriculum focuses on studying one subject per day, rather than studying several subjects per day that is practiced in regular public high schools in indonesia. On the third year of this program, students are focused to participate in international olympiads with the subject of their choice among chemistry, biology, physics, or mathematics. I was luckily enough to be accepted in this class which only accepts 17 out of 1500 students with requirement of possessing an IQ above 150.
Through my years, i had the chance to participate in the Biology Olympiads until the regional scope. Though being an experimental program, "Kelas Super" was short on funds and was forced to change the curriculum. This change made my class graduate one year earlier, similar to a high school acceleration class. However, this change did not affect my course of education, for i continued my education at University of Indonesia, one of the most top ranking universities in Indonesia.
My current major, Industrial Engineering, has taught me to look at things from a new perspective. Systems are the main core in my major, and therefore i have learned to think out of the box in every situation i deal with, whether it is in academics or daily life situations. A science i love the most in Industrial Engineering is Ergonomics, which focuses on designing a product according to human factors. I hope to indulge deeper in this part of science someday.
My university life at University of Indonesia can be called very valuable. For the past two years, i have participated in various nonacademic activities that have sharpened my soft skills, such as IMTI (Ikatan Mahasiswa Teknik Industri), as the co-head of the Student Creativity sector, Project Officer of the class of 2005 inauguration (PSB 2009), and as a staff of many campus projects. Besides that, i have spent my spare time for my hobbies which are dancing and photography. I am currently a member of BKST (Bengkel Kreasi Seni Teknik), a community of art appreciators in my faculty, in the Traditional Dance division. Other than that, i take dance class at Namarina Dance School, in Jazz Ballet. As for photography, i love to practice autodidact in my spare time, whether when traveling or at a local event. My photo works can be seen on a site called DeviantArt, a community for art lovers. My university life at University of Indonesia can be called very valuable.
